My story
Why I created this guide
I arrived in Britain in 2006 to pursue a master's degree. What was supposed to be a short stay became more than 20 years. In that time, I've built a career, invested in property and built businesses.
I've made money, and I've made mistakes. I've also learned something that fundamentally changed how I think about success.
A good salary doesn't automatically give you freedom.
Neither does owning a home.
Neither does holding a passport from your new country.
You can have all three and still be unable to make a major change in your life without putting everything you've built at risk.
For me, the important question became:
How do I build a life that gives me genuine choices?
Choices about where I live, how I earn and how I spend my time.
Today, I'm able to spend time between Britain and Nigeria while maintaining the assets, businesses and commitments I've built.
But that didn't happen overnight. And it certainly didn't happen because I followed everybody else's idea of success.
Through content I share daily with my community of almost 200,000 people across social media, I've challenged people to examine the lives they're building.
But many ask: “Bisi, I understand what you are saying. But given my circumstances, what should I actually do?”
I also recognise something important.
Not everybody can afford mentorship.
Not everybody needs a private consultation.
And not everybody needs to follow my particular path.
That's why I created How To Succeed as an Immigrant Without Tears, a practical guide with workbooks. It is not a plan for you to copy my life, make the same investments or leave the country you live in. It is a way for you to examine your own life and make decisions that make sense for you.
